Music By Asheley on DC FOX 5 (WTTG) - World Pianist Day

Tuesday, November 8, 2022 @ 11:15AM — 11:20AMTue, Nov 8, 2022 @ 11:15AM — 11:20AM

World Pianist Day comes around each November 8. It’s dedicated primarily to pianists and their achievements. The world has seen and will see many unsurpassed musicians whose music has traversed through the ages.

It’s a day to treasure the emotions pianists evoke with their performance. Indeed, it makes our hearts move with ultimate joy. As many piano events as possible are held to embrace this joy. Because most forms of Western music can use the piano, pianists have a wide choice of styles to choose from, including jazz and blues. It’s also a chance for those who have never been involved to give it a try.

HISTORY OF WORLD PIANIST DAY Typically, modern classical pianists dedicate their careers to performing, recording, teaching, and researching new works to expand their repertoire. They do not usually write or transcribe music, as, for example, pianists did in the 19th century. Some classical pianists may specialize in accompaniment and chamber music, while others, relatively few, will perform as full-time soloists. As for the classical pianists, one of the greatest examples is Mozart. People consider him the first “concert pianist” because he often and widely performed on the piano. Composers of the classical era, Beethoven and Clementi, were also famous for their playing, as well as Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, and Schumann. And in the classical period, the piano begins to consolidate its place in the hearts and souls of everyday people.

In turn, jazz pianists almost always perform with other musicians. Comparing their playing with the playing of classical pianists, we can say that it is freer, and there is an atmosphere of spontaneity in their performances. They usually do not record their compositions. Improvisation is a significant part of their work. The famous jazz pianists are represented by Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, and Baden Powell.
